This blog is a summary of the AP Chemistry exam 2022 that is just a few days away. It’s time for you to recheck the syllabus, weightage, and different sections of AP Chemistry to align your preparations!
AP Chemistry exam primarily aims at testing the fundamental understanding of a student. Also, evaluate his or her ability to apply the chemistry concepts practically in the real world. That’s how the AP chemistry exam seems a difficult exam to crack for an ordinary student. However, for a student who has attended most AP chemistry classes and thoroughly read textbooks, it would be a cakewalk. If the student has also watched the video lectures and practiced many mock tests, then this is no way a difficult exam rather.
Are you willing to walk on the cake or sit down upset? Ofcourse, walk on a cake! So get yourself handy with the AP chemistry 2022 syllabus, weightage of questions, and ofcourse the different sections of the AP chemistry 2022 exam.

AP chemistry exam components
AP Chemistry has two sections.
- Section 1: Multiple Choice
The 1st section has to be completed in 90 minutes as they are discrete MCQ-type questions. Calculators are not allowed whilst attempting the first section. - Section 2: Free-Response
The 2nd section has to be completed in 105 minutes. This section involves descriptive answers.
Accordingly, AP students are given a total of 3 hours and 15 minutes to complete both of these sections.
Section 1 – AP Chemistry multiple choice
60 questions | 50% of Score | 90 minutes |
The MCQ includes both individual type and set-based questions. In the case of set-based questions, a common diagram or data representation type of questions is asked.
What type of questions you can expect in section 1
- Testing a theory or a prediction
- Math-based problem-solving
- Explaining the chemical properties
Section 2 – AP Chemistry free response
7 questions | 50% of Score | 105 minutes |
In contrast to the previous section, this section includes 3 long-descriptive questions and 4 short-descriptive questions. The long essay-type questions each carry 10 points. The short answer questions each carry 4 points.
What type of questions you can expect in section 1
- Analysis and interpretation of models
- Chemical concepts represented in the form of diagrams, models, or graphs
- Calculator involving numerical questions
- Justifying a claim with reasoning
Tips to make your AP chemistry exam easier than ever
Firstly, Learn the concepts with clarity. Secondly, pay attention to the lab experiments and procedures. Thirdly, understand how to evaluate a prediction or theory. In addition,
- Practice the various graphs, models, diagrams wherever involved
- Thorough the structure of a compound or a substance with its physical and chemical properties
- Reiterate the chemical equations until you understand
As a result, you get well versed with the AP chemistry topics, expected questions, and how to solve numerical problems if asked. Ultimately, you can walk on the cake!!! Best Wished!!!
